In their latest single and music video, titled “Memories I Don’t Want,” Against The Voices get as experimental as ever with elements of rock and even a touch of throwback pop decadence, and while their influences have never been on their sleeve quite as prominently as they are in this most recent studio work, this band ironically winds up producing something that feels – and sounds – quite futuristic here.
“Memories I Don’t Want” is sleek, oddly cosmopolitan (especially given the countrified narrative of its lyrics ) and groove-driven, but more than that, it’s by far one of the more melodic alternative singles I’ve listened to this month so far.
By creating a bit of rhythmic discordance on the track, they’re able to capitalize on all of the loose tension remaining from the ascent towards the hook. Is it a little complicated compared to what their major label brethren are doing? Sure, but I definitely don’t take these guys for being the sort of artists with a ‘follow the pack’ mentality at all.
You’re not likely to find another indie release quite like the eccentrically stylish “Memories I Don’t Want” from Against the Voices this spring, and though this season is turning out to be a pretty exciting time for fans of alternative music, I would still rank this among the best tracks that I’ve had the pleasure of taking a peek at recently.
Against The Voices aren’t looking to change the world of pop music as we know it, but in songs like this one, they definitely make the underground beat feel a bit more intriguing than it did before their arrival.

Devin White is an R&B musician and talent scout for Rel Carter, Roc Nation executive and nephew of rap icon Jay-Z. Together they launched ‘The Culture Tour’ in 2017, a national platform designed to educate upcoming creatives on the inner-workings of the music industry.Devin previously served as executive assistant to Janet Jackson’s Rhythm Nation records A&R division and currently curates artistic programming for an array of non-profit organizations and label affiliates. Delvin has hooked up with SaVannah for ‘Don’t Forget The Love’.
Their take on ‘Don’t Forget The Love’ is more melodic and even has something of an orchestrated quality, but it bubbles with a modern sheen thanks to its R&B music leanings. This collaboration produces memorable results with this release, a likely preview of the quality we should expect from both Devin and SaVannah.
We decided to catch up with both for an interview..
What inspired you to get into music?
Devin: JayZ and The Jacksons. I always loved all parts of the music business not just the stage.
SaVannah: I fell in love with performance first and very early on as Young Nala in the Lion King. As I got older it just stuck with me.
How would you describe your music?
SaVannah: We are different in this way (laughs). I think Devin is more mellow than me. Very groovy and funky. He loves adult contemporary.. I do too but I’m a tad bit more ratchet then he is (laughs).
What you say is your recording and writing style?
Devin: For this record specifically it was all about the feeling. You figure out the energy you’re trying to convey and then you make sure the lyrics are supporting it.
Where would you like to see your career in 5 years time?
Devin: Time is a magical thing so I don’t like to jump ahead of it too often but I know the music I’ve made will touch millions because that’s what it was created to do. That level of conviction to believing in what I do wasn’t always there.. but I own it now.
SaVannah: I love dance and it’s my first love so I know it will be spiralling around music with a bigger concentration in dance.
Where can music fans listen to you?
Devin: Everywhere.Search our names and we are there waiting forYou ߘ
